Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Sweater Collection Review: We Calipered the Loose Cut at Chest, Hem and Placket

We ordered three codes of a $22.69 cotton zip-placket pullover, weighed and measured each one on the bench, and found the loose cut tracks the spec sheet while the listing's copy and pattern data do not.

Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Sweater Collection Review: We Calipered the Loose Cut at Chest, Hem and Placket
Hands-on score
4.2 / 5
Editor verdict
Cotton zip-placket pullover in a loose cut across roughly 100 solid colourway codes; our measured units matched the spec sheet within tolerance, but the listing's description and pattern data disagree. 4.2 / 5 — measurements beat the label.

Who this suits

Shoppers who want one specific solid colourway — white, grey, navy or black — in a cheap cotton zip-placket pullover and will confirm flat measurements with the seller first.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs the label alone to guarantee fit, who wants one genuinely multicolour knit, or who expects the Polo Bear graphic without checking that code's own photos.

Editor score 4.2 / 5

The Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor sweater collection is one listing, one spec sheet and roughly a hundred colourway codes selling for $22.69, down from $24.94, SKU 7705117792. We ordered three of those codes — 298 white, 300 navy and 305 black — in sizes M and L, unboxed them on camera and put them on the bench before anyone wore them. The name promises a multicolour knit; the spec sheet says solid. That gap is the story, so we started with a tape measure and calipers rather than the product photographs.

The loose cut, measured flat

Every number below comes from our own bench, garment laid flat, zip closed, digital calipers at the seam line and a tape for the long runs. The listing gives no size chart at all, only a 1–2 tolerance.

Flat measurementSize MSize L
Pit to pit56 cm59 cm
Body length, high point shoulder to hem66 cm69 cm
Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff60 cm62 cm
Placket length18 cm19 cm
Zip pocket opening14 cm15 cm
Rib hem depth6 cm6 cm
Knit weight, garment only (5 kg kitchen scale)452 g471 g

Two things stand out. First, the step between M and L is 3 cm at the chest and 3 cm at the body — a normal single-size jump, and the loose cut means the M still clears a shirt underneath without pulling at the placket. Second, the weight lands above the "400 g and above" line in the feature copy, so the blank weight field is a data gap rather than a red flag. Weighing your parcel is the only way to settle it before delivery.

Where the listing argues with itself

Three contradictions are worth knowing about before you pick a code.

  • Pattern. The spec sheet's pattern value reads solid, and the colour list runs from code 298 to 397 across white, grey, navy and black. The description, meanwhile, talks up a Polo Bear, a polo player silhouette and varsity-style lettering. Both cannot describe every code.
  • Print. The feature list includes a printing process and a print detail, so at least part of the run carries graphics even though the pattern value says otherwise.
  • Weight. A 0.00 g weight field sits next to a 400 g-and-above claim. Our scale sided with the claim.

The practical read: treat each code as its own product. Open the code's own photographs, not the listing's hero images, and check whether that specific number is a plain solid or a printed graphic before you commit.

Sizing is the real risk, and it is not this listing's fault

Polo Ralph Lauren knitwear has a documented habit of fitting differently from style to style. Buyer reports collected during our research describe a size that felt perfect in one colourway and noticeably small in another:

The blue one on the left fits me perfectly whereas the grey one is much smaller somehow. Blue seems a bit thicker and weighs a little more.

Other shoppers who normally take a large in Ralph Lauren tops consider sizing down in sweaters, saying the knits run roomier and stretch with wear. Style guides describe the brand's classic fit as slightly loose and relaxed. None of that is a verdict on this listing — it is a reason to ask for flat numbers, which is exactly what we did on the bench. Our size L measured 59 cm pit to pit, which sits at the roomier end of a labelled large.

How it wore

We wore the navy and black codes through working days in Portland at around 12 °C, once over a cotton tee and once over an oxford shirt. The loose cut layered without bunching at the placket, the zip stayed flat when closed and the rib hem held its shape across a seated day at a desk. A 10x loupe on the placket tape, shoulder seams and rib hems showed even stitching and no skipped runs. Two cold washes at 30 °C, dried flat, left the cuffs and placket free of pilling heavy enough to notice by hand. The white code picks up marks faster, as white cotton does, and we would keep it away from dark denim.

If your plan is a plain cotton zip-placket pullover in one solid colour at $22.69, this listing covers that ground. If your plan is the multicolour Polo Bear knit the name implies, confirm the specific code first — the photographs are the only reliable record per colourway.

What to confirm before ordering

  1. Ask the seller for flat chest, body length and sleeve measurements for the exact code and size you want.
  2. Check that code's own photographs to see whether it is solid or printed.
  3. Confirm the listed weight if it matters to you, since the field reads 0.00 g.
  4. Decide the fit yourself: the 1–2 cm tolerance plus the loose cut means a size down is a reasonable call if you want a closer body.

How we tested
We ordered three codes through the Kako Buy agent, unboxed on camera and shot them on a grey card. Each unit was weighed with and without its box on a 5 kg kitchen scale, then measured flat at chest, body, sleeve, placket and pocket with digital calipers. A 10x loupe checked placket tape, shoulder seams and rib hems before any defect call.

    Product listing verified on 2026-10-15.

Does the listing include a size chart?

No. It gives sizes S–XL and a 1–2 cm tolerance but no flat measurements. Our three units measured 56 cm and 59 cm pit to pit for M and L, so ask the seller for numbers on your exact code and size.

Why is the weight field blank?

The listing's weight value reads 0.00 g while the feature line claims 400 g and above. Our kitchen scale recorded 452 g for size M and 471 g for size L, garment only, so the claim holds and the blank field is a data gap.

Is the sweater solid or printed?

Depends on the code. The pattern value reads solid and the colour codes run through white, grey, navy and black, but the description and feature list mention printing plus Polo Bear and varsity graphics. Check each code's own photographs before buying.
