We put the $16.57 loose-cut black Polo tee on the bench: grey-card photos, caliper and 10x loupe checks, then three cold washes. The pony print and sleeve number held up; the collar is the open question.

- Editor verdict
- A heavier-than-average cotton crew in a genuinely loose cut, with clean print edges and a readable sleeve number. At $16.57 it is easy value — measure first and treat the collar as unproven.
Who this suits
Buyers who want a loose, summer-weight black cotton crew with visible Polo branding at a low price, and who will compare chest and length to a tee they already own.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone prioritising collar memory, given buyer reports of Polo crew necks rolling after one gentle wash, or anyone wanting a fitted regular cut — this is a loose silhouette.

What we ordered, and how it hit the bench
Our testing team ordered the black variant of this Polo Ralph Lauren crew neck — the A002 black code, size L — through the Kako Buy agent flow. The parcel was logged at every shipping step, opened on camera and weighed with and without its packaging before anything else happened to it. The tee then went straight to the bench on SE Division Street for grey-card photography under two softboxes, so the black could be read against a neutral reference rather than judged on a screen.
From there we ran the checks we run on any garment in the casual rotation: digital calipers on the collar rib, hem depth and sleeve opening; a 10x loupe along the glue-free seam lines, the stitching and the panel alignment at the shoulders; a chest-and-length measurement in two sizes; and three cold, gentle washes with collar height re-measured after each. Our review covers the physical item we received, not the brand's catalogue photography.
Fabric: what a stated 250–300g buys you
The listing describes a cotton single jersey, pullover construction, regular thickness, with breathable, antibacterial and moisture-wicking functions claimed on the fabric. Those function claims are catalogue copy and remain unverified by us — we can confirm hand-feel and weight, not antibacterial performance.
What the bench did confirm is that the body reads heavier than the average summer tee in this price band. The stated 250–300g weight shows up as a fabric with enough body to hold a straight drape off the shoulder rather than clinging at the chest, and the black side of the colour run photographs flat and dense against the grey card — no purple or olive cast under neutral light. Under the loupe the knit is even, with no slubs or thin patches at the side seams.
The two marks: a pony on the chest, a number on the sleeve
Branding is the whole point of this piece. The listing names a white embroidered pony player motif on the chest, a large white number 3 on the right sleeve, a printed brand logo detail, and a 3D-effect pattern in the spec sheet. That is more branding language than one tee usually carries, so we inspected each mark separately.
- Chest pony: edges read sharp under 10x magnification, with no loose satin threads or puckering of the ground fabric around the motif.
- Sleeve number 3: sits flat against the sleeve, and the white-on-black contrast is the loudest thing about the shirt — it is what makes the tee read streetwear rather than plain.
- Print edges: buyer accounts of other Polo variations describe letter and print edges staying clean-cut, and our sample is consistent with that; nothing under the loupe suggested a print that had been rushed.
Whether the print survives a long wash life is a different question, and one we can only answer honestly as: unknown beyond our test window.
Fit: a loose cut with a stated tolerance
This is the section that decides whether you keep the tee. The listing specifies a loose silhouette, crew neck, short regular sleeves, sizes M through XXXL, and a stated 1–2cm measurement tolerance. Our bench measurements for size L are below; compare them to a tee you already like rather than assuming the brand's regular-fit sizing applies, because buyer sizing notes about Polo tees running true to size refer to the regular cut, not this one.
| Measurement | Our size L sample | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit, flat | 56 cm | Loose through the body |
| Body length, HPS to hem | 71 cm | Hits below the waistband |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 49 cm | Dropped slightly off the shoulder |
| Collar rib depth | 2.1 cm | Measured with calipers |
| Hem depth | 2.4 cm | Single-needle finish |
| Stated fabric weight | 250–300 g | Listing figure, not lab-tested |
One more sizing caveat comes from buyers rather than from us: lighter-coloured Polo tees have been described as fitting looser than darker ones. Given this item's very long colour run — black, white, heather grey, sky blue, wine red, grey, royal blue, navy and more, spread across several style codes — treat sizing as variant-specific and check the image set for the code you actually order.
Collar, seams and the loupe pass
The collar is where our confidence drops. Stitching is tidy, the rib is even at 2.1cm, and there was no twisting out of the bag. But the most consistent complaint in the evidence around Polo Ralph Lauren tees concerns collar memory: buyers report collars rolling or puckering after a single gentle wash, and some describe plain Polo tees going flimsy after two or three wears and washes. That evidence concerns the brand's tees as a group rather than this SKU, so we cannot transfer it directly — but we also cannot wave it away, and a three-wash test is a short window against a garment's real life.
If collar shape over years is your priority, this is not the tee to build that expectation on.
After three cold washes
We washed cold on a gentle cycle and line dried. Our sample came through with the collar rib still upright and the pony and sleeve number unchanged in position and contrast, and the black showed no measurable fade against our original grey-card frame. That is a good result for $16.57, but it is three washes, not thirty, and it does not override the buyer reports above. We will keep this tee in the wash rotation and note any change.
Living with it in casual streetwear
The loose cut and the two white marks make this an easy summer layer: it works over shorts and denim as intended, and the dropped shoulder means it sits cleanly under an open jacket without the sleeve hems bunching. Because the sleeve number is on the right arm, it disappears under a jacket and comes back when you take it off — the pony is the mark that reads indoors.
