We ordered one tee, weighed and measured it, examined the prints at 10x and washed it once. The 250 g/m² cotton holds up; the S–XL labels still demand a size check before you buy.

- Hands-on score
- 4.2 / 5
- Editor verdict
- A midweight 100% cotton loose tee that washed and printed cleanly on our bench, at a price that leaves room for a size check. The S–XL labels still need converting to Margiela's numeric chart before you commit.
Who this suits
Buyers who know their numeric Margiela size, want a loose midweight cotton tee, and can ask the agent for flat chest and length numbers before the order ships.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone who needs the fit settled without measuring or asking, and anyone expecting the construction documented on the label's own Italian-made pieces. One wash also can't confirm the listed anti-wrinkle finish.
Editor score 4.2 / 5
By Diego Marchetti, Reviews Editor
Maison Margiela's printed tees reach this listing as a catalogue rather than a single product: one page that spans dozens of colour codes, several print directions and one shared loose block. We ordered a unit through the Kako Buy agent flow — size L in black 09, SKU 7718798570 — and ran it through the desk's standard sequence: grey-card photographs before any wear, bench measurements, a 10x loupe pass, three wear sessions and a cold wash.
What Arrived
One short-sleeve, crew-neck pullover in a plain poly mailer, with a tag that carries no numeric size. The label reads L. The listing states 100% cotton at 250 g/m², a loose cut, a 2 cm measurement tolerance and a wrinkle-resistant finish. At the time of ordering the price was $7.01, down from $7.98, and the listing showed as in stock.
The Knit, on the Bench
Weighed without packaging, our tee came in at 238 g on the 5 kg kitchen scale — the right order of magnitude for a 250 g/m² cotton knit sewn into a loose pattern, though garment weight and fabric weight are not the same figure and the listing does not say how it measures the latter. The hand is dry and faintly papery when new, closer to midweight than to summer-weight. Held to a window, the gauge is fine and even, with no thin spots or slubs we could find.
Under the loupe, shoulder seams are taped and cleanly finished, with no loose thread tails or puckering along the neckline rib. Side seams are standard and flat — there are no side gussets on our unit, and we could not identify single-needle construction anywhere on it. That matters only as a comparison point: an independent review of a different Maison Margiela cotton piece documents 100% cotton, single-needle sewing, side gussets and Italian production, at roughly €650 retail. That review describes another garment, not this listing, and our sample is not evidence about the wider catalogue.
The Prints, at 10x
Our black 09 unit carries a small chest graphic plus a larger abstract lettering motif, both screen-printed. At 10x the ink sits flat on the surface without bridging the knit's loops, and the edges read clean rather than haloed. Faint stepping shows on the tighter curves of the lettering — unremarkable for a screen print at this price, and invisible at arm's length. The prints in this catalogue run from small chest marks to full-front compositions, so what we inspected covers one motif and one colourway, not the whole run.
After One Cold Wash
We washed the tee inside out on a cold cycle, air-dried it flat, and re-measured. Print edges and ink colour were unchanged: no cracking, no lifting at the boundaries, no bleed into the black ground. Creasing relaxed on the hanger overnight, which is consistent with the listing's anti-wrinkle claim without confirming a durable finish — one wash is a snapshot, not a verdict on a treatment. Flat chest read back at 55 cm pit-to-pit and 71 cm from the high point of the shoulder to the hem, the same as before the wash and inside the listed 2 cm tolerance.
The Labelling Gap You Have to Close
This is the part of the listing that needs work before you order. The S–XL labels here are not tied to a numeric Maison Margiela size, and the page's own tolerance is 2 cm. Brand-level reporting puts a numeric 46 at a comfortable medium, with a small already slightly oversized and a large fairly fitted. Published brand charts for the label's knitwear and tops give a usable sanity check:
| Label on listing | Brand-level chest guidance | Our measured L unit (flat) |
|---|---|---|
| S | 36" | — |
| M | 38"–40" | — |
| L | 42"–44" | 43.3" (110 cm) chest |
| XL | 46"–48" | — |
"I had a 46 before and it fits a medium comfortably, a small would be slightly oversized and a large would be very fitted with little wiggle." — buyer report on Margiela numeric sizing, brand-level, not specific to this listing.
Our L landed at the top of the brand-level L range, which is what a loose cut should do. It also means the label alone tells you very little: on this page, the S–XL tag, the 2 cm tolerance and the numeric conversion all have to be reconciled before the order ships. Ask the agent for flat chest and body-length numbers on the exact size and colour code you want.
Forty-One Photos, One Product
The image set runs to 41 frames covering black, white, beige, washed-black and haze-blue codes across the shared tee shape. Because the strongest buying cue is the relationship between each colour code and each print placement, we checked our delivered unit against its own frame rather than against the full grid. Our black 09 matched its frame on print size, placement and shade. That is a single data point: no independent buyer evidence covers this exact listing, so treat the catalogue as a menu to verify frame by frame, not as a promise that all codes photographed identically.
Price, Channel and Caveats
At $7.01 the tee sits well below what the label's own retail pieces carry, and the construction differences above are part of that gap. Separately, the brand's official webstore holds a 2.6/5 rating on Trustpilot with roughly 76% one-star reviews, concentrated on fulfilment and customer service. That rating concerns the official channel, not this listing, and it does not describe our order — but it is worth knowing if you also shop direct.
How We Scored It
We scored this 4.2 / 5. The measured fabric weight, the print quality on our unit and its behaviour through a cold wash carry most of that score; the unresolved gap between the S–XL labels and Margiela's numeric chart carries the deduction. If you already know your numeric size and you ask for flat measurements before checkout, this is a considerable amount of cotton for the money. If you need the fit settled without asking, order something else first.
